In general, government health plans in Canada do not cover healthcare costs outside of the hospital, including prescription drugs and medications, dental work, specialized health practitioners like physiotherapists and massage therapists, mental health services and psychologists, ambulances, vision care and more.

Health issues could leave you with thousands of dollars in unplanned medical bills.

Blue Cross Health Complete Health Insurance is there to secure your finances and provide you peace of mind.

How do I choose which health
insurance coverage I need?

Medavie Blue Cross Complete Health coverage modules

1. Start with Health Coverage

Every Complete Health Plan plan starts with a health benefits module (Entry, Essential and Enhanced). Each health module covers you for vision care, physiotherapy, dietitian services, counselling and other healthcare benefits not covered by your provincial government.

  • Entry module includes 60% coverage, meaning the plan pays 60% of eligible expenses while you pay 40%.
  • Essential module includes 70% coverage.
  • Enhanced includes 80% coverage.

Once you choose your health module, you can then add optional modules to your plan.

2. Choose Drugs and Medications Coverage (Optional)

The drug module covers prescription drugs with no overall maximum on drug benefits. Once again, there are three options:

  • Entry (60% coverage), meaning the plan pays 60% of eligible expenses while you pay 40%.
  • Essential (70% coverage).
  • Enhanced (80% coverage).

3. Choose Dental Coverage (Optional)

The dental module covers you for dental exams, cleanings, fillings and more (again, with Entry, Essential and Enhanced plans).

4. Add Assured Access, Critical Illness and Hospital Cash (Optional)

Assured Access allows you to retain health coverage even if you lose your employee group benefits (group benefits are insurance plans provided by your employer). This module is useful if you are planning to switch jobs, recently switched jobs, unexpectedly unemployed, self-employed with variable income, between contract or seasonal work, or leaving a job with group benefits.

Critical Illness coverage provides a tax-free, lump sum cash payment upon diagnosis of 44 conditions including cancer, heart attack, stroke and Alzheimer’s disease. This makes it among the most comprehensive coverage in Canada.

Hospital Cash coverage pays out cash every day of your hospital stay to cover incidentals and lost income.
